The Bowers & Wilkins Z2's audio system is primarily designed to work with Apple's portable sources, but it can also receive signals from other devices that use the iTunes software player. In addition, the Bowers & Wilkins Z2 has a standard stereo mini-jack line input for connecting any portable players.
A Lightning docking station is mounted on the top of the system's sleek chassis to connect the latest generation of iPhone/iPod. For all other i-devices, as well as PCs, you can use AirPlay connectivity, which is provided when using iTunes Universal Player version 10.2.2 or later. At the same time, the signal can be transmitted both wirelessly and via Ethernet, through a home router.
The Bowers & Wilkins Z2 is equipped with a pair wideband drivers positioned to deliver the most expressive and expansive soundstage. The acoustic load for the speakers is the B&W patented Flowport bass reflex port, the outlet of which is located on the rear panel.
Also, for additional processing of the audio signal, expanding the stereo picture reproduced by the system, a proprietary DSP is used. Bowers & Wilkins Z2's built-in amplifiers deliver 20 watts per channel. The amplifiers of the system operate in Class D, which, in combination with the switching power supply, ensures a very high efficiency of the electronic filling of the device - it practically does not heat up even when the B & W Z2 is operated for a long time at high power output.
The streamlined shape of the body made of ABS polymer, reinforced with fiberglass, high quality of assembly and materials used gives the device a very pleasant appearance, and the quality of its sound is noticeably higher than is usually expected from devices of this class. Even at high volumes, the Bowers & Wilkins Z2 does not produce any subsonic or audible distortion, and its tonal balance remains virtually even throughout the operating frequency range. The system is equipped with a remote control, which can be used to control the main functions of the connected player.
