UK-based Musical Fidelity has unveiled the new Musical Fidelity M3x DAC external digital-to-analog converter. According to Musical Fidelity, the M3x DAC combines a thoughtful PCB design, an optimized toroidal transformer linear power supply layout and impressive performance. The new product utilizes many of the solutions developed for the older M6x model, providing functionality and sound quality close to the M6 series components. Musical Fidelity M3x DAC is based on Burr Brown PCM1795 DAC chips and Burr Brown SRC4392 sample rate converter, which boosts digital signal parameters up to 24-bit/192kHz level, providing digital content playback with minimal distortion. The component supports decoding of PCM digital streams up to 24-bit/192kHz, as well as Native/DoP DSD up to DSD256. DSD files are played back in their original form without upsampling. The Musical Fidelity M3x DAC's switching arsenal includes unbalanced RCA analog outputs and balanced XLR outputs with separate output buffers for low output noise. The Musical Fidelity M3x DAC power supply is based on the proprietary Super Silent Power Transformer toroidal transformer, specifically designed for audio applications.
